A perfect thing to do on a Saturday is a snorkeling trip to one of the small islands across the bay of Madang .
Jan – one of the numerous originals you can find here is offering to take people on his boat for a contribution to the petrol bill of 30 Kina (7 EUR).
So in the morning at 10:00AM Franziska and myself went to the boat jetty at the Madang resort. Together with other divers we were picked up by Jan and had a nice trip to Pig-island, famous for its small coral reef surrounding it. The Madang bay is full of small Islands , some inhabited some not. Public Motorboats go to the bigger islands for a fee of 1 Kina.
So we anchored there and enjoyed a phantastic day out on the water (with small sunburn of course). Although I needed to get used to snorkeling again, I quickly began to feel comfortable in the water. Slightly distracting is the fact that the temperature is about 28 degrees, which does have no refreshing effect at all when jumping into it.
But the corals and the fishes you can observe are great: all colors, all sizes! There are only few distracting noises around, so one can hear the sounds the corals and fishes make.
After that day out on the water I was so tired that I fell into bed at 8 PM – on a Saturday evening!!
