Another dream beach

Even if the impression might come across that I am just hanging out at the waterside, I have to tell here about another great beach up the north coast of Madang towards the next bigger city Bogia.

Although it is not more than 30km from Madang it takes a good hour by car to get there due to the absolutely miserable road conditions. But the drive towards the place is still quite pleasent and the location is fantastic.

It is just a small village with about 10 traditional wood-huts, having a small beach and a pool-like inner reef you don’t find any sign for tourism whatsoever. When we arrived a father was playing the guitar at the beach in the shadow of a tree with his kids singing to his play. Later his wife came with some food out of one of the huts and the whole family was enjoying a relaxed Sunday lunch. It was all such a peaceful scene, that we inevitably also talked in a low voice. The special thing about that beach is a whole in the reef through which one can dive into the open sea. It is very big and with a bit of courage everyone can dive through. Although the inner reef also has some corals and fish the atmosphere on the outer side is just breathtaking: the water is cooler and deeply blue. Bigger fish swim around you and the corals are colorful. The only things to take care of are jelly fish which can appear from time to time.
When getting back to the inner beach one can lie in the sand at the shore and just watch the spectacular view to the volcano of Karkar Island. It was active the last time 20 years ago and is a beautifully shaped island. Who comes to join me??
